Winter Flag Football at Conaty

This page is your playbook for how we build teams at X2-Sports.

We use a draft system to keep the league fair, competitive, and fun for every kid. As a coach, you get some control (Safe Picks), but the system protects parity across the board.

Safe Picks

IMPORTANT – New “Safe Pick” Procedure

The only athlete(s) guaranteed to be on your team are the child(ren) associated with your X2-Sports account.

On top of that, you’ll have the chance to select up to 3 “Safe Picks.”

What is a Safe Pick?

“Safe Picks” are players you specifically want on your team, such as:

  • Friends or family
  • Former players you’ve coached
  • Kids you already know and want to build around

You may choose up to 3 Safe Picks.

Critical: You must email your Safe Picks.

If you do not email your Safe Picks in advance, you will not receive any Safe Picks. No exceptions.

If two (or more) coaches list the same athlete as a Safe Pick:

  • That player is no longer “safe” for anyone
  • They go back into the general draft pool like everyone else

We keep this rule tight to avoid conflicts and protect fairness.

The Draft Is Final

Once the draft is done, teams are set.

  • We do not move kids after they are drafted
  • There are no trades and no mid‑season reshuffling

Even if you forgot your nephew, and your sister brings it up at family dinner… the draft is still final. (Yes, that happened. Yes, it’s still final.)

Draft Platform: OnlineDraft.com

We use OnlineDraft.com to run the draft.

  • OnlineDraft randomly selects the draft order
  • The order is not determined or announced until moments before the draft starts

This keeps things fair and prevents pre‑draft gaming.

Snake Draft Format

All drafts use a Snake Draft format:

  • The pick order reverses each round
  • Example with 6 teams:
    • Round 1: 1 → 6
    • Round 2: 6 → 1
    • Round 3: 1 → 6
    • Round 4: 6 → 1
    • …and so on, until rosters are full

Every coach gets a balanced mix of early and late picks.

Late Registrations

The draft is final—but the season isn’t full until every roster spot is taken. After the draft:

  • Late registrants are added to teams with the fewest players
  • If multiple teams have the same number of players, assignments are made randomly by our registration software

You may see new players appear on your roster after the draft concludes. That’s normal.

Important safeguard:

There are exactly two ways to guarantee a Late Registration does not land on your team:

  1. You ask for that late registration to be placed on your team
  2. The family of that late registration asks to be placed on your team

If either happens:

  • That specific team is removed from the random draw
  • The player will not be placed on that requested team

We do this to prevent back‑door roster building and keep the process clean.

Buddy Requests

Buddy requests from families are:

  • Visible on your draft sheet
  • Helpful context… but not binding

They are not guaranteed. Your job is to build a balanced team first and foremost.

AutoDraft

OnlineDraft has an AutoDraft feature that we will use when:

  • A team doesn’t have a coach assigned at draft time
  • A coach cannot attend the draft

In those cases:

  • We will not draft on behalf of that coach
  • AI/AutoDraft will make selections for that team, using the same player pool and information

Siblings

Siblings are automatically kept together on the same team.

  • When you select one sibling, the additional sibling(s) will count as your next pick(s) in the draft order

Example: you pick Player A, and they have a sibling B in the same division. B will be assigned to your team and will use up your next draft slot.

Reference Columns in the Draft Room

You’ll see several columns in OnlineDraft. These are self‑reported by families and meant as helpful signals—not hard data. Use them if you want, or ignore them.

  • Rank (1–5)
Parent’s answer to: “Please rate the athletic ability of your child (5 being the strongest).”
  • Previous Team
If you see an NFL team name or similar, this is the self‑reported team they most recently played for.
  • How Many Seasons
Number of seasons the athlete has played flag football, as self‑reported by the family.
These can help you balance experience and ability across your roster, but remember—they’re estimates, not scouting reports.
